Eliot Abramson, a 17-year-old lacrosse midfielder at Mercer Island High School near Seattle, died on June 7 after a fast-moving ball struck him at the base of his neck during a college recruiting showcase six days earlier. School officials and family members confirmed his death.
The 6-foot-2 sophomore had been competing in the showcase on June 1 when the ball slipped underneath the back edge of his helmet during play. Witnesses watched him lose consciousness immediately and collapse on the turf, as People reported.
