GOAT ISLAND, Maine (CN) — Twenty-eight steps up a spiral wrought-iron staircase. That’s how far it takes Nick Lewia to get to the top of Goat Island Lighthouse on this small island off the coast of southern Maine.

The lighthouse here still gives guidance to mariners, just as it has for nearly 200 years.
