Former U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, a quiet conservative force who spent nearly three decades in Congress and guided Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation, died Wednesday night after battling a neurological disorder.
Gordon James, a communications professional and longtime friend of the Kyl family, confirmed Kyl’s death and identified the cause as a neurological disorder. Kyl was 84. His family said he died following complications from dementia, which he had been diagnosed with in December 2025, when he announced he was stepping away from public life.
