The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night, capturing the franchise’s first championship behind another dominating performance from ace pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.Milwaukee, one of baseball’s smallest markets, won the series four games to one, capturing the crown on the visitor’s field.
It was the first championship in the franchise’s 57-year history, ending one of the sport’s longest droughts.
Brewers closer Trevor Megill pitched the final two innings, retiring the Rays’s Richie Palacios on a grounder to end the game.
It followed another dominating performance by Misiorowski, the flamethrower who routinely hits 100 MPH and shut out Tampa for 5 2/3 innings before his bullpen finished out the game.
The Brewers had made one lone appearance in the Series in 1982, led by Hall of Famers Robin Yount and Paul Molitor but lost.
With a youthful team anchored by longtime veteran Christian Yelich, the Brewers finished the regular season with the MLB’s best record of 112 wins.
Catcher William Contreras, who was Milwaukee’s hottest hitter, won the Most Valuable Player.
