President Donald Trump will campaign this week in several states he won in 2024 in a bid to boost Republican Senate candidates who are facing close races against Democratic opponents. The circuit will take the president to Ohio, Alaska, Arizona, and Montana where polls are showing Republicans at risk amid poor voter mood on the economy and Trump’s flagging approval rating.
On Monday, Trump will host a rally in Youngstown, Ohio where incumbent GOP Senator Jon Husted is facing off against Democrat Sherrod Brown, the state’s ex-Senator looking to mount a comeback after the 2024 election. Though Trump handily won the state in 2024, Brown holds a three-point lead in the polling average.
Husted, the former lieutenant governor of Ohio, was appointed to the seat vacated by JD Vance, who resigned to become the vice president.
Then, on Tuesday, the president will fly to Alaska for a rally to boost the two-term incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan, who is locked in a tight race with Mary Peltola, the state’s former Democratic congresswoman. Recent polls have shown Peltola with a narrow lead.
Later in the week, Trump will visit Montana and Arizona. In Montana, Republican Kurt Alme is running to replace retiring GOP Senator Steve Daines. Alme holds a significant polling lead over his Democratic opponent. There is no Senate race this year in Arizona, but several House Republicans are locked in tight battles to retain their seats.
