President Donald Trump on Wednesday confirmed that he would attend the G7 summit in France after the UFC fight at the White House later this month. The White House will host the UFC Freedom 250 fight as part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States’s founding. The G7 summit, meanwhile, is a forum for members of the economic bloc to discuss key international initiatives.
“I’ll be going to the G7, in France, immediately following what will be one of the Most Entertaining Nights in American History, the UFC World Championship Fights on the South Lawn of the White House,” he posted on Truth Social. “Records indicate that whilst fights of a much lower level took place at the White House throughout its long and storied History, nothing even close to this, the Greatest Fighters in the World, CHAMPIONS ALL, was even thought of for the People’s House!”
Other events marking the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding have faced controversy. Notably, several musical artists who were advertised to peform on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., have either denied involvement with the event or withdrawn from it outright due to backlash.
Trump, for his part, has since indicated he will replace their performances with a speech.
