The Democratic Party on Friday selected South Carolina as the first state to vote in the 2028 presidential primary, Politico reported. The Palmetto State currently boasts a single Democratic member of the House, Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., but is also home to a large black population, a Democratic voting bloc that has sought increased influence in determining the party’s leaders.
South Carolina’s selection could prove a boon to former Vice President Kamala Harris, should she seek the nomination in what is expected to be a crowded field.
