Former Maine state lawmaker Troy Jackson wins Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate

Former Maine state lawmaker and logger Troy Jackson won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate on Saturday, setting up a November showdown with longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a race that could play a key role in determining control of the Senate.Jackson was selected after Democrat Graham Platner, who won the party’s June primary, withdrew from the race earlier this month following a sexual assault allegation that he has denied. Maine Democrats gathered Saturday to choose a new nominee to take on Collins in the general election.
