Pope Leo commends US-Iran peace deal

Pope Leo XIV is commended the peace deal between the United States and Iran. The head of the Roman Catholic Church said in an X post Monday that the deal is an “encouraging result of patient work in dialogue and negotiation,” expressing thanks to all involved countries that worked to facilitate a meeting between the parties and make the agreement possible.
Trump said Wednesday he has signed the memorandum of understanding to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz. And Iran has also signed it, according to the news outlet Axios.
Leo in his post also expressed hope the deal strengthens mutual trust, security and stability in the Middle East.
President Trump clashed with the pontiff in April, openly condemning him after Leo criticized the war. In a Truth Social post on April 12, Trump called him weak on both crime and nuclear weapons, as well as terrible for foreign policy.
He also claimed Leo is only in the Vatican because Trump is in the White House.
“They thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump,” the president wrote, urging Leo to “get his act together” and “stop catering to the Radical Left.”
The two have yet to meet in person. However, Vice President JD Vance formally met with the pope, who is from Chicago, last month at the Vatican.
