The paper President Trump signed at Versailles is being called a deal with Iran. The word does not fit. A deal is two sides agreeing to something hard and binding. The fourteen points the White House released this week put the hard, immediate concessions on one side of the table and a promise to keep talking on the other. The concessions are ours. The promise is Iran’s. That is a pause on a war we have already won, not a deal.
There is barely a deal to grade. We are walking away from a victory we already hold, and no one in the administration can say what we get for it.
