The NAACP this week sued Tennessee over its newly redrawn slate of congressional district maps, alleging that the redraw intentionally discriminates by race. The state legislature redrew its maps in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that narrowed Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and eliminated race-based districts. The new map broke up Memphis and eliminated the last Democratic-leaning district in the state.

But the NAACP argued that the redraw violated the ruling, alleging one count of discriminatory purpose in violation of the 14th and 15th amendments.
It further asks for a three-judge panel to declare the redraw invalid under the Constitution and to issue an injunction against the new map’s use.
The NAACP brought the suit in the Middle District of Tennessee.
