The Department of Homeland Security on Friday confirmed the arrest of Milo Yiannopoulos, the former conservative media icon who previously worked for Breitbart News and went on work for Kanye West.DHS confirmed that Yiannopoulos entered the U.S. legally in 2019 via New York City. He overstayed his visa, however, and received a final order of removal from an immigration judge on July 22. He did not attend his immigration hearing.
“Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now,” DHS posted on X. “We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.”
Yiannopoulos rose to fame in the leadup to the 2016 presidential election as a conservative firebrand. He emphasized his homosexuality and flamboyant image as he maintained ostensibly far-right political positions.
His career fell off after the election, when a previously unreleased tap of him discussing homosexual relationships with underaged boys went public.
He later became an intern for now former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., before acting as Kanye West’s chief of staff for years.
