SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk has invested $5 million in Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas’s reelection campaign in the final stretch of the election cycle, Politico reported.Abbott is facing off against Democratic nominee Gina Hinojosa on Tuesday, in what has become an unexpectedly close contest. While Abbott is still favored to win, the race is likely to be more competitive than is typical for the Lone Star State, which traditionally leans Republican.
Musk previously invested at least $6 million in Abbott’s campaign, though that sum contributed to his $26 million haul in an earlier reporting period.
The former chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has invested heavily in Republican campaigns this cycle. His moves come as Democrats increasingly float criminal investigations into the world’s richest man.
