Gov. Mike Braun, R-Ind., on Friday confirmed he would support efforts to bring primary challenges against the state GOP senators who voted against a redistricting effort. After the state House approved the revised congressional map, which would have given the Republicans an edge in all nine of the state’s congressional districts, state Senate Republicans voted down the proposal, which had the support of President Donald Trump.
“I am very disappointed that a small group of misguided State Senators have partnered with Democrats to reject this opportunity to protect Hoosiers with fair maps and to reject the leadership of President Trump,” Braun posted on X. “Ultimately, decisions like this carry political consequences. I will be working with the President to challenge these people who do not represent the best interests of Hoosiers.”
Trump had urged Republicans in red states to redraw their maps in a bid to give the GOP a boost in 2026. The incumbent party traditionally loses midterm elections and Trump hopes to buck the trend.
