Authorities in Indian-administered Kashmir have ordered a multi-level audit of all public libraries and educational institutions to purge books and digital archives deemed “anti-national” or “glorifying terrorism,” according to an order issued earlier this month.
The directive came from the Jammu and Kashmir administration, which is directly appointed by New Delhi. It mandates a full review of all books, journals, supplementary reading material, reference works, periodicals and other educational resources available in libraries or learning resource centers.
