Former Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Wednesday slammed President Donald Trump’s ceasefire agreement with Iran, asserting that Israel had not been party to the agreement and that it represented a failure of Israel to achieve its objectives.Trump on Tuesday evening announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran that the Iranians later confirmed. Negotiations are set to begin on Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan. Trump described an Iranian 10-point proposal as “workable” but also highlighted his own 15-point, which is markedly different. It will likely prove a tough task for negotiators to reconcile the competing visions for a lasting peace. Israeli officials, however, appear livid that the Iranian proposals seem to be receiving consideration.
“There has never been such a political disaster in all of our history. Israel wasn’t even at the table when decisions were made concerning the core of our national security,” Lapid posted on X.”The military carried out everything that was asked of it, the public demonstrated amazing resilience, but Netanyahu failed politically, failed strategically, and didn’t meet a single one of the goals that he himself set.”
“It will take us years to repair the political and strategic damage that Netanyahu wrought due to arrogance, negligence, and a lack of strategic planning,” he added.
Lapid served as the 14th prime minister of Israel and is the current head of the opposition in the Knesset. He has further slammed the “complete failure” of the Netanyahu government to achieve its objectives in the war.
