For years, the government interpreted the Constitution’s 14th Amendment as saying that if you are born on American soil, you’re an American citizen. President Donald Trump has challenged this with his executive order restricting birthright citizenship.
This case hit the Supreme Court last year. But back then, the court was looking at a preliminary issue—about how far judges could go in blocking Trump.
