Elected town commissioner in NJ charged with submitted fraudulent signatures on a primary petition

A New Jersey councilwoman and her husband are facing criminal charges for allegedly having submitted fraudulent signatures on a petition to get her on a Democratic primary ballot in June.The dependents have been identified as Lmberton Township Committee member Gina LaPlaca and husband Jason Carty.  
Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw announced Monday that LaPlaca and Carty were charged following an investigation that found multiple individuals whose names and signatures appeared on LaPlaca’s nominating petition said they had not signed the petition or authorized anyone to do so for them, according to Fox29. LaPlaca was reportedly running for reelection.
According to prosecutors, without the fraudulent signatures, LaPlaca’s petition would have lacked the required number of signatures to be a candidate for the primary.
LaPlaca faces several charges, including making a false statement under oath and knowingly submitting a false petition.
