Senate Democrats have demanded that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth provide answers on reports of poor conditions aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, which has been at sea for more than 200 days without heading to port.Reports have emerged in recent weeks of deteriorating morale and living conditions aboard the aircraft carrier, which has been stationed in the Middle East amid the Iran war.
While President Donald Trump has denied claims that the family members of crewmen are concerned about the situation, lawmakers want details from the administration.
The 15 Senate Democrats on Saturday wrote to Hegseth, demanding information.
“These are deeply troubling reports, and the American people deserve honest answers,” they wrote, according to The Hill.
The carrier is set to be replaced by the U.S.S. George Washington in the near future. But the ship’s woes aren’t the first of the conflict. Earlier this year, the U.S.S. Gerald Ford was forced to dock in Crete for repairs after serious damage to the plumbing system resulted in the flooding of living quarters.
