Sen. Darline Graham Nordone, R-S.C., has reportedly told the White House that she might seek a full term in the upper chamber after Gov. Henry McMaster, R-S.C., appointed her to serve the remainder of her late brother, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s, R-S.C., term.Semafor first reported on her conversation with the White House.
President Donald Trump openly backed her selection for the post after Graham died earlier this month. But with many South Carolina Republicans eyeing the opening, it is far from a sure thing that Trump would endorse her for the August special primary.
Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., has already announced his intent to run, and Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., has expressed interest in a potential bid. Both unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for governor earlier this year.
