A contractor that supplied voter registration systems to New Jersey has hit back at Gov. Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., after she said that a software glitch had led to the erroneous registration of 6,600 non-citizens to vote in the Garden State.IDEMIA this week denied that its systems had malfunctioned and said that the state’s Motor Vehicles Commission sent data to the Division of Elections, Politico reported.
The 6,600 non-citizens reportedly confirmed they were not citizens, but also indicated they sought to register to vote, according to IDEMIA Senior Vice President Lisa Shoemaker.
“This information was recorded correctly and always available to the MVC via the database that MVC utilized to gather voter information and transmit to the Division of Elections. At no point was a noncitizen ever marked as a citizen in the database,” she said.
Sherrill’s announcement came in the wake of a primetime address from President Donald Trump in which he announced that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had found 278,000 non-citizens on voter rolls in cooperative states.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin later publicly offered to help New Jersey clean its voter rolls.
