Rep. Lauren Boebert says Republican staffers told her the House vote on the massive defense bill would stay open, then closed it while she was on hold for a call with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The Colorado Republican missed Wednesday’s vote on the fiscal year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, a $1.1 trillion military spending package, and offered a pointed explanation: she was in the middle of back-channel talks with the Department of War over a provision she wanted removed. The vote shut before those talks wrapped up, and Boebert says she was told it wouldn’t.
