Camp Mystic faces criminal probe over lethal 2025 flood deaths

Camp Mystic, the Texas-based summer camp that saw 27 girls killed in a flood last year, faces a criminal probe for possible manslaughter and negligence charges over the matter, the Associated Press reported.While authorities have yet to bring any charges, they executed several search warrants last week, with the applications suggesting that they may yield evidence of negligent homicide, manslaughter, or other criminal acts.
Camp Mystic filed for bankruptcy this year and the Eastland family, which has owned and operated it for years, has spent much of the past year in hearings to address the lethal incident. Camp owner Richard Eastland also died in the flood, along with 25 campers and two teenage counselors.
But the Eastlands’ public testimony has not satisfied many of the victims’ families.
“For more than a year, families of the 27 angels killed at Camp Mystic have fought, begged, and pleaded with the Eastland family for accountability and answers,” attorneys for the family of one victim said in a statement. “Instead, the Eastlands have held hostage the information and answers owed to parents who deserve, more than anyone, to know the details surrounding their daughters’ final moments.”
