The alleged ringleader of a foiled mass casualty attack targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn is a 31-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico who overstayed his visa more than two decades ago, and was later shielded from deportation under the Obama administration’s DACA program, the Department of Homeland Security has confirmed.
Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez was arrested by the FBI on June 14 in Omaha, Nebraska, the same day the UFC event took place at the White House, as part of a broader takedown that has netted five suspects so far. Federal investigators have identified 23 individuals allegedly connected to the plot, meaning 18 remain at large.
