Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged Cubans on Friday who are frustrated with their government and seeking “positive” change to work discreetly with the CIA.The suggestion comes after President Trump brought up the idea of military intervention in Cuba after the war with Iran is finished, stating during a rally Friday that American war ships could have a “stop over” off the coast of Cuba.
The president claimed Rubio would be sent in to finish an agreement with Cuba, indicating a peaceful resolution.
The secretary promoted a peaceful change of power in Cuba, highlighting the “disappointment of failed promises” from the country’s regime.
“To those who seek to create positive change in Cuba – now is the time,” Rubio posted on X. “The disappointment of failed promises, corruption, and the privileged lives of only a few; seize this opportunity to create the change you desire through a discrete [sic] partnership with the CIA.”
Rubio, who is of Cuban descent, previously expressed frustration and disappointment with the Cuban government, claiming the South American country was already a “failed state.”
“They may have a government that’s capable of jailing and killing people, they have a regime capable and has jailed and killed people,” he told Fox News host Sean Hannity last month. “But it’s not a functional government and it’s not a functional country. It just simply isn’t. And in addition to that, it is one that’s fueled by corruption and theft.”
