A North Carolina company that builds “premium” chicken coops donated a custom-built chicken coop for Vice President JD Vance’s residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory. The coop features a round turret and faux slate roof similar to the Victorian home where the second family lives, the Associated Press reported, and it includes a dozen baby chicks.
Matthew DuBoise, owner and founder of the Carolina Coops said that building the coop at a place of historical significance was an “amazing” thing to do for the country.
Local 4-H students were at the residence for an event last weekend, where the 4-H students taught other students about the coop.
Vice presidents over the years have added items to the property. Joe Biden built a heritage garden on the property, and Mike Pence’s wife, Karen, had bee hives. In 1991, Dan Quayle added a heated swimming pool.
The Associated Press confirmed the coop wasn’t built with tax dollars, citing anonymous sources.
