6,600 Non-Citizens Registered to Vote in NJ Due to Software Error, Dem Gov. Sherrill Admits

A “serious software error in New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle System led to the registration of roughly 6,600 people who indicated that they were not U.S. citizens” between June 2023 and June 2024, Democrat New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill admitted Tuesday.
In a X.com post, Gov. Sherrill attributed the registration of ineligible voters to a software glitch that took place under her predecessor, Democrat Phil Murphy:
“These individuals answered ‘no’ when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for drivers’ licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway.”
Sherrill says she has ordered the removal of any residents from the voter rolls who were erroneously added and that New Jersey is in the process of replacing the vendor responsible for administering the flawed system.
“Appreciate you responding back to our letter, @GovSherrillNJ. This should’ve been done a LONG time ago,” U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin responded to Gov. Sherrill’s post:
“Just ONE illegal vote cancels out the vote of a U.S. citizen. As @DHSgov reported last week—New Jersey could have as many as 35,152 potential non-citizens registered to vote.“Looking forward to working with you to secure your elections in the future.”
“I am appalled by the reckless failures that allowed this to happen and the lack of transparency shown by those in charge at the time, the governor wrote, promising accountability, Sherrill continued in her post:
“This failure didn’t occur under my watch, but accountability starts now. I am taking action to prevent anything like it from occurring in the future and make sure those responsible are held accountable.”
The Democrat governor then pounced on the opportunity to attack, vilify and smear Republican Donald Trump by repeating some of her party’s shopworn accusations, without evidence.
For his part, Pres. Trump called the registration of 6,600 ineligible voters “the direct result of Democrat policies that refuse basic citizenship checks — and exactly why Congress must pass the SAVE America Act immediately.”

The bill, which is being held up in the Senate by a Democrat filibuster, requires states to use the Department of Homeland Security’s SAVE system to confirm citizenship before registering anyone to vote in federal elections, a safeguard New Jersey has refused to implement. The Save America Act also mandates voter ID for federal elections, a reform supported by the overwhelming majority of Americans, Trump noted.
