The overlooked nutrient 91.7% of Americans are missing: Why choline matters now more than ever

Choline is an essential nutrient critical for brain development, liver function, immune health and DNA methylation, yet 91.7% of Americans fail to meet daily intake recommendations.
The adequate intake is 425 mg daily for women and 550 mg for men, with pregnant women needing 450-550 mg for optimal fetal development.
New research published in The Journal of Nutrition reveals choline’s previously underexplored role in supporting immune cell signaling, inflammation regulation and gut barrier function.
Rich dietary sources include egg yolks (providing ~25% DV per egg), beef liver (over 50% DV per serving), fish, dairy and soy foods.
Deficiency is linked to cognitive impairments, fatty liver disease, neural tube defects in newborns and increased cardiovascular disease risk.
