Woke Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is reportedly taking concrete steps that could set up a 2028 presidential campaign, according to new reporting indicating she is weighing a White House bid alongside a possible Senate run. Axios reports that the New York progressive has launched a de facto national tour, brought on veterans of Sen. Bernie Sanders’s campaigns and poured money into expanding her online operation as allies quietly position her for higher office.
In public, however, Ocasio-Cortez has continued to play down the speculation, telling Democratic strategist David Axelrod at a University of Chicago event this month that “they assume that my ambition is positional” and insisting that “my ambition is way bigger than that.” She said her goal is “to change this country,” arguing that “presidents come and go, Senate, House seats, elected officials come and go, but single-payer healthcare is forever,” before listing a living wage, workers’ rights and women’s rights as priorities that outlast any title.
