The White House on Thursday withdrew President Trump’s nomination of a former Oklahoma state trooper to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Trump nominated former state trooper Richard Lance Shroyer to lead the agency as assistant Department of Homeland Security secretary.
However, Shroyer’s has bid stalled in his confirmation hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Chairman Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, reportedly has said he would not vote to advance the nominee out of committee until the Trump administration provided more information about its investigation into the federal agents involved in the deadly shootings in Minneapolis earlier this year, according to The Washington Examiner.
Paul’s office has made clear the senator did not voice opposition to the nominee.
ICE has been without a Senate-confirmed director since 2017.
