The White House on Thursday withdrew President Trump’s nomination of a former Oklahoma state trooper to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Trump nominated former state trooper Richard Lance Shroyer to lead the agency as assistant Department of Homeland Security secretary.
However, Shroyer’s bid was stalled in his confirmation hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, when Chairman Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, demanded details of investigations into agent-involved shootings in Minnesota, according to CBS News.
Paul has a longstanding disagreement with Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, previously an Oklahoma senator, which could have a factor in Shroyer’s failed bid.
ICE has been without a Senate-confirmed director since 2017.
