WH confirms Trump, Mullin in agreement about ICE vehicle stops

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday stated that President Donald Trump and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin were “on the same page” about the resumption of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle stops.Mullin briefly suspended such operations in the wake of a fatal incident in Maine that led to backlash. Trump later announced that the stops would continue and affirmed their necessity for deportation operations. Leavitt clarified that Trump and Mullin were in agreement about their necessity.
“Vehicle stops are continuing. Verbal guidance has been given to all field offices across the country by the Department of Homeland Security,” she said in the daily press briefing. “The president and the secretary of Homeland Security are on the same page that vehicle stops are a necessary tool that ICE agents need in order to continue their deportation campaign of the worst of the worst illegal alien criminals from our country.”
The specific incident in Maine saw Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, call for an end to vehicle stops. Collins is facing a tough reelection bid against an as-yet-unchosen Democrat due to the withdrawal of Graham Platner.
