Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico received a chilly welcome from one attendee at a town hall event he held in the city of Houston on July 19, 2026, after he seemingly ignored certain questions in an attempt to avoid answers that could potentially sink his campaign. The tense exchange was caught on video and has since gone viral on social media.
During the town hall, Talarico took questions for 90 minutes. Video taken by Austin American-Stateman’s Faith Bugenhagen showed a black woman yelling at the Democratic nominee, “So you stay here, you answer our questions or you suffer the consequences.” Other attendees seemingly agreed with the woman, showing their support by giving her a round of applause.
