ESPN announced on July 20, 2026 that it was booting longtime sports analyst Ryan Clark from the network, news that left sports fans across the country stunned, as the firing happened right in the middle of his program. Clark had just wrapped up his usual duty on NFL Live when he was informed at the end of the segment that he was being laid off by the network.
Clark did not return to the show that day, according to a report from The Athletic. Insiders at ESPN spoke with the outlet and said that they told Clark about his firing during the program because the media was reporting that he was one of the individuals they were looking at letting go and did not want the analyst to find out he lost his job before they were able to tell him.
