Vice President JD Vance on Thursday highlighted what he saw as the Biden Department of Justice’s lax attitude toward fraud cases during an event in Maine.Vance visited the state as part of an effort to promote his anti-fraud task force, which has zeroed in on misuse of public funds and implemented a nationwide crackdown. Speaking to a crowd in Bangor, Vance said that the Biden administration had generally been unwilling to pursue multi-million dollar fraud instances.
“Let’s say a person defrauded all of you for a million bucks,” he said. “To many of our Department of Justice leaders under the Biden administration, they said that was too low level to actually go after.”
“So, I mean, how many of you would like the federal government to hand you $1 million?” he asked. “Well, there are fraudsters out there who are getting $1 million of your money and the government wasn’t even paying attention to it.”
He also put the blame for Maine’s problem with public fraud on Gov. Janet Mills, D-Maine, and President Joe Biden. Vance further celebrated Biden’s departure from office and the upcoming expiration of Mills’s term.
