Vice President JD Vance on Thursday announced the creation of a dedicated U.S. Assistant Attorney General position to handle fraud across the country.”We know that the fraud isn’t just happening in Minneapolis,” he said. “We are creating a new assistant attorney position who will have nationwide jurisdiction over the issue of fraud.”
He further stated that the appointee would begin their work focusing on Minnesota amid revelations of widespread fraud linked to the Somali expat community there, but that it would also focus on states such as California and Ohio.
Viral reporting from independent journalist Nick Shirley attracted attention to the scope of fraud in Minnesota, which has since erupted into a major scandal and led to Gov. Tim Walz’s decision to end his campaign for a third term.
