    Used electric vehicle prices improving after historically terrible resale values: analysis

    Electric vehicles have a reputation for rapid depreciation, but according to industry data, prices this year are bucking the trend. Prices for used EVs were up 5.1% between January and June 2026, CNBC reported, citing a Recurrent analysis published this month. Analysts say car appreciation is exceedingly rare. 
    Other auto analyses have identified a similar trend. An Edmunds analysis done for CNBC found that the average transaction price for EVS with a 2023 model year rose 6% during the first half of 2026 — from $33,303 to $31,429. 
    While the trend would be a positive for those looking to sell their used EVs, it also means that those looking to buy a used EV will face higher prices, which are typically more expensive than gasoline-powered vehicles.
