Emergency responders pulled the body of an unidentified man from the East River near one of Manhattan’s busiest ferry stops Tuesday morning, a grim discovery that unfolded just as commuters were arriving for the day. The man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 911 call came in around 7:50 a.m. reporting the body floating near the East 34th Street NYC Ferry landing, the New York Post reported. A ferry had been scheduled to arrive at that same landing just one minute earlier, raising the question of whether passengers or crew first spotted the man in the water.
