    U.S. waives $320 million in Egypt military aid conditions, citing Iran war role

    The United States waived human-rights conditions on $320 million in Foreign Military Financing for Egypt in fiscal year 2025.
    Secretary of State Marco Rubio cited Egypt’s mediation role after Operation Epic Fury, the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran launched in February 2026.
    The waiver covers the rights-conditioned portion of roughly $1.3 billion in annual U.S. military assistance to Cairo.
    The Biden administration set a precedent in September 2024 by releasing the full $1.3 billion after similar waivers.
    Rights groups warn that repeated waivers undermine congressional safeguards amid reports of torture and arbitrary detention in Egypt.
