United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Tuesday launched strikes on Iran, targeting oil tankers near Kharg Island, a critical oil supply depot, Fox News reported, citing “several U.S. defense officials.”Other strikes have targeted the area around Jask, in the country’s South. The outlet asserted that the renewed strikes did not mark the beginning of a new phase in the war and were likely not a prelude to ground invasion.
President Donald Trump previously suggested he would attack Kharg Island if the Iranians continued to target commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The war began in late February, with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The war was on pause for several weeks, with negotiations in Pakistan to end the conflict ultimately failing to result in a final deal.
