U.S. approves $373.6 million precision bomb package for Ukraine, expanding long-range strike capability

The U.S. State Department approved a potential $373.6 million sale of 1,532 JDAM-ER precision-guided bomb kits to Ukraine on May 6, 2026.
The extended-range kits convert unguided bombs into GPS-guided munitions capable of striking targets more than 40 nautical miles away.
Boeing, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, is listed as the primary contractor for the proposed foreign military sale.
The approval follows congressional pressure after former Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell accused the Pentagon of freezing $400 million in Ukraine assistance.
Russia has repeatedly warned that Western arms deliveries prolong the conflict and escalate tensions, calling such shipments direct NATO participation in hostilities.
