Tuberville shreds Senate’s ‘show week’ on SAVE Act: ‘We can’t get it passed’

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., on Tuesday conceded that the Senate would not be able to pass the SAVE America Act and that speeches and votes on the Senate floor were part of a “show week.””This is more of a show week,” he said on the Charlie Kirk Show. “We can’t get it passed, and it’s probably one of the most crucial pieces of legislation that we will face.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, after months of pressure, agreed to allocate floor time for speeches on the bill and to allow a conventional vote. He did not agree to use a talking filibuster to push it past Democratic opposition.
“We can’t get anything done. We even have Republicans that are not going to vote for it. The talking filibuster is not going to work. The only way we can do it, we gotta bust the filibuster, 51 votes, get this done,” he said. “We must pass everything we can for President Trump between now and the election next year, and we can take this country back over.”
“But if we don’t get this passed, we are doomed.”
At present, most Republicans in the Senate have expressed support for the SAVE Act, but fewer have endorsed using the talking filibuster or reforming Senate rules to allow it to pass.
