President Donald Trump on Wednesday indicated that the U.S. would launch another series of strikes on Iran after an initial wave on Tuesday.”We hit them hard yesterday and we’re going to hit them again hard today,” he said. “And we’ll see what happens with the deal. We were really close to a deal — but they keep tapping us along. They keep playing us for suckers because you know what? They dealt with some very stupid Presidents.”
The U.S. launched strikes on Iran on Tuesday evening in response to the downing of a U.S. Apache helicopter. The war has been in a state of nominal ceasefire for weeks, with Trump repeatedly insisting that the combatants are on the brink of reaching a deal.
Nevertheless, the ceasefire has witnessed a series of intermittent volleys between Iran, Israel, the U.S., and Hezbollah. Tensions have also flared between Israel and the U.S. over the possible terms of a long-term agreement.
