President Donald Trump on Monday announced an expansion of school choice opportunities, including for children in foster care.Trump made the announcement in an event at the White House Rose Garden, alongside Education Secretary Linda McMahon. The event saw Trump welcome students, parents, and educators to the White House to celebrate the expansion of school choice and other education initiatives.
Among the programs Trump celebrated was “Fostering the Future,” a program spearheaded by first lady Melania Trump to help children transitioning out of foster care.
Several beneficiaries of Trump’s reforms also spoke at the event, including a father of five, who had two foster children.
McMahon later spoke to those in attendance, celebrating the 2026 back to school season as a “return to common sense in our children’s education.”
“We are taking very deliberate and thoughtful steps to return education to the states,” she added.
