President Donald Trump celebrated the unofficial results of Guam’s gubernatorial election in a social media post Tuesday, as a Republican appeared poised to secure the governorship. The 2026 unofficial general election results reported Republican Vicente “Tony” Ada defeating Democrat Therese Terlaje by just over 1,000 votes. Ada reportedly secured 51.5% of the vote, compared to Terlaje’s 48.1%.
“Guam, which has always been considered strongly Democrat, just had an early call for a Republican Victory in the top spot, Governor,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Congratulations to Tony Ada! Also, the Republicans have the Majority in the State Senate. Wow, hopefully that’s an indication for things to come.”
The territory’s current governor is Democrat Lou Leon Guerrero, but the state previously had a Republican governor from 2011 through 2019 and from 2003 to 2011.
The territory is also poised to see the first flip of the election, with Democrat Alicia Limtiaco securing 51% of the vote to become Guam’s delegate to Congress, defeating incumbent Republican James Moylan, who secured 48.8%.
