Trump touts order to keep financial services from traffickers, illegals

President Donald Trump on Tuesday touted his executive order directing the Department of the Treasury to work to prevent the use of financial institutions to facilitate illegal immigration and trafficking.The Trump administration has sought to implement the mass deportations that the president promised during the 2024 presidential campaign, including by deporting as many as 22 million people.
While physical deportations remain a primary mechanism for removal, the administration has also attempted to encourage self-deportations by denying illegal aliens access to services and public aid that could incentivize them to remain.
“Illegal Immigrants and Foreign Fraudsters steal billions every year from the American Taxpayer,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “I recently signed a powerful new Executive Order, which will be led by the Treasury Department, to stop Banks, Credit Cards, and Financial Institutions from being used to facilitate Human Smuggling, Drug Trafficking, Illegal Immigration, and the Criminal Cartels who orchestrate these activities.”
“Access to our Nation’s Financial Systems must be limited to those who have a Legal Right to be here, and who are engaged in Lawful and Legitimate Commerce,” he insisted. “Bank Accounts being used to enable Illegal Immigration, or to store the Welfare received by Illegal Aliens, will be shut down, and funds will ultimately face Impoundment and Seizure so they can to be returned to Taxpayers.”
“This also sends a clear message to the anti-ICE rioters that your violent disruptions are only strengthening our resolve,” Trump added.
