Iran has delivered its response to the latest U.S. ceasefire proposal through Pakistani intermediaries and is pushing for negotiations centered on a permanent end to the widening regional conflict, Iranian state media reported Sunday.Pakistani officials confirmed they had received Tehran’s message and were serving as a channel between the two governments.
According to Iranian state television, Tehran is seeking a comprehensive agreement that would halt fighting across multiple fronts, including the conflict in Lebanon, where Israeli forces continue to battle the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. Iran is also seeking guarantees for the security of maritime shipping routes in the region, the report said.
The latest U.S. proposal reportedly included terms that include reopening the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz and curbing Iran’s nuclear activities. Iranian officials signaled, however, that Tehran prefers to address nuclear negotiations separately at a later stage.
Trump rejected the proposal after reviewing it.
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” he wrote.
