President Donald Trump on Monday told reporters that Iran was still negotiating with the U.S., despite Iran’s public denial of planned talks the same day.”For some reason when they’re talking, they don’t like saying that they’re talking,” he said.
Iran stated Monday that no talks with the U.S. were planned, despite Trump’s claims that talks were set to begin Monday. “The talks are going along.”
“They say ‘we want to walk. we want to talk about the Strait.’ But more importantly, from my standpoint, we want to talk about the denuclearization of Iran, because this is what it’s all about. This is why I’m doing this,” he added.
Trump has repeatedly stated that Iran wants to make a deal to end the conflict. The war has been in and out of states of ceasefire for months. The president recently called off planned strikes on the country, saying that he had made progress on an agreement with Tehran.
