Rep. Dan Goldman, the Democrat who rose to national prominence as lead counsel in President Donald Trump’s first impeachment inquiry, lost his congressional seat Tuesday after voters in New York’s 10th Congressional District handed him a decisive primary defeat. CNN projected former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander the winner, and the margin was not close.
Goldman’s loss marks one of the most significant scalps claimed by the Democratic Party’s ascendant progressive wing, and a pointed rebuke of a lawmaker whose entire political identity was built on opposing Trump. Voters in his own deep-blue district decided that cable-news fame and impeachment credentials were not enough.
