Trump debuts new White House helipad ahead of United Nations General Assembly

President Donald Trump participated Monday in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new White House helicopter landing pad, which was unveiled on the South Lawn of the White House.The ceremony, which saw the president use oversized gold scissors to cut a red, white and blue ribbon, occurred ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, which the president is expected to attend on Tuesday.
Trump used the new helipad to take off in Marine One, which is the call sign for a vehicle transporting the U.S. president, and travel to the assembly.
“We are just leaving the White House Lawn on the maiden voyage from the newly built, and very beautiful, Heliport,” Trump posted to Truth Social. “I want to thank Jim Taiclet, CEO of Lockheed Martin, who made this valuable contribution to our country. Our government has been thinking about doing this for 25 years, but was never able to get it done.
“Most importantly, thank you to the Great Construction Workers and Stone Masons of the Washington, D.C., area, who created something very special, and to Clark Construction for its wonderful supervisory work,” he added.
The new helipad is the president’s latest addition to federal facilities as he works to overhaul the nation’s capital. Trump is also working to construct a new White House Ballroom and comes after orchestrated renovations across the city, including through the restoration of the equestrian statues near the Lincoln Memorial, renovating the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall, and restoring fountains and parks.
